With the NFL completely in the rearview and the busy season of March Madness over, Pennsylvania online sportsbooks are in the midst of seasonality. PA operators reported just $572.1 million in total bets in April.
Overall betting is down 0.11% year over year and 20.9% month over month.
“As expected, Pennsylvania sportsbooks endured a slower month in April coming off of a busy March Madness,” said PlayPennsylvania Managing Editor Chris Imperiale. “The state posted a handle of just $572.1 million, down more than $150 million from last month. April’s total also fell just short of betting action from a year ago by about $650,000. May could provide a boost to figures with the 76ers’ NBA playoff run and NHL playoffs ongoing; however, don’t expect PA betting handle to spike again until the start of NFL.”
PA sportsbooks recorded $51.8 million in total revenue for April.

- PA sportsbooks are starting to hit seasonality with the slow part of the sports calendar as total bets drop. With just NBA and NHL playoffs, coupled with MLB on the board, expect total bets to continue to fall. Once Pennsylvania reaches the dog days of summer, total bets could drop below $400 million.
- BetMGM Sportsbook PA, which recorded $44.2 million in handle. An improvement in Caesars’ hold percentage of 4.3% could go a long way. It’s the lowest percentage of any of the top six sportsbooks in the Keystone State.
- Pennsylvania crossed the $21 billion mark in total lifetime handle. Only Nevada, New Jersey, New York and Illinois have crossed that threshold.
