Pennsylvania Revenue for Sports Betting

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board publishes monthly financial reports for the state’s authorized sportsbook operators. This page distills those reports down into their key metrics:

  • Handle: Amount wagered
  • Revenue: Gross proceeds after winning tickets are paid out
  • Taxes: Portion of revenue collected by state and local government

The state imposes a 36% tax on betting revenue, the highest rate of any competitive commercial market in the US. We will continue to provide current updates on the betting market and its monthly revenue reports in Pennsylvania.

Latest revenue report highlights – January 2025

  • Produced $873.1 million in total bets in January, down 2.3% from December.
  • PA sportsbooks earned nearly $84.3 million in revenue during the month, up 77.5% from December.
  • Handle should start to decrease slightly over the first few months of 2025. After March Madness is complete, expect sharper declines in April, until September.
